Stand Fearless for Women's Health

A Call to Our Community: Help sustain Silent Spring Institute's vital research on women's health during this uncertain time
Stand up for women's health

Dear Friends,

We are writing today because Silent Spring Institute’s prevention research — work you’ve helped make possible — faces a serious challenge. The present climate for federal research funding is fraught with uncertainty.

Since January, the alarming reality has been that critical funding for our environmental exposure studies may be substantially reduced, or, for some projects, eliminated.

Additionally, potential across-the-board cuts to existing federally awarded grants — which could reduce essential operational support by two thirds — pose a significant threat to Silent Spring Institute.

Will you please make a special urgent gift or pledge your support today to protect the prevention research you care about?

Currently, more than half of our funding comes from federal sources. The remaining half of Silent Spring’s budget comes from a combination of foundations and generous individuals like you. This means that our most innovative and impactful research would not be possible without your support.

One thing is clear: the threat is real. If these cuts happen, they won’t just reduce funding — they will put independent research at risk, research that protects women’s health.

For thirty years, thanks to our brave donors, Silent Spring has produced original research focused on preventing breast cancer and advancing women’s health. Every breakthrough, every policy change, and every step toward a future without breast cancer has been possible because of dedicated supporters. Please step up today to protect this vital work.

Donor support continues to drive groundbreaking, high-impact discoveries. A recent multi-year study demonstrating the effectiveness of state policies in reducing toxic exposures nationwide earned front-page coverage in both The Washington Post and The New York Times.

We’re taking a proactive approach to this uncertain situation by pursuing major foundation funding and other private support. However, these efforts take time and face increasing competition — and we cannot afford to wait.

Your gift or pledge today are essential.

Any gift you make — no matter the size — will have a meaningful impact on this work and reflect your care for a healthier future for all women.

As Rachel Carson reminded us, “Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.”

Your gift or pledge will help ensure a healthier future for women everywhere.

With heartfelt gratitude for all you make possible,
